The Sheshe Story

Many years ago, on one of the beautiful Greek Islands my lover wore a white cotton nightdress. It had a simple classic design and the fabric was cool and soft to the touch. It was sheer and sensual but not too revealing or overtly sexualised, it had style.
Years past and the garment eventually died. I looked for a replacement. To my surprise I could find nothing similar anywhere, not in Australia, back in Greece or elsewhere.
When I looked at the sleepwear market it appeared that women's sleepwear fell into three distinct categories. Firstly, brushed and standard cotton pyjamas and nightdresses brightly printed with Disney characters or vivid designs which were obviously designed for the teen market. Secondly there was lingerie styled sleepwear, usually in satin or other man made fibres, many of which were designed to be overtly erotic and seemed to me, to have been designed with the male onlooker in mind rather than the comfort of the wearer. Thirdly there were the very "practical" nightdresses and "gowns" which were obviously made with Grandma or Aunty Betty in mind, not one iota of style or sensuality, usually designed at ankle length in nylon or thick cotton with lots of Victorian bows and ribbons.
What I wanted was something with style and class in natural materials, a little sheer, sensual and sexy, yet understated - it did not seem to exist.
So in 2005 my lover (who is now also my wife) and I decided we would make our own sleepwear. Everyone thought we were mad........until they saw the finished garments and felt how soft and fine the material is and how comfortable they are to wear, either in the winter or the hot Australian summers. We were lucky enough to find a great designer and she has worked with us tirelessly to ensure the garments are manufactured to the highest standards and that the fabric is just right. It took two years before they were "Just Right" and we found a manufacturer who was willing and able to create the "pintucking" on the Sorrento range to our satisfaction. We initially thought our market would be predominantly the 30-40 year old market but have realized that Sheshe appeals to all ages.
So why the name Sheshe?......well, we have the most wonderful friend Cecelia who personifies "woman" and all that is wonderful about the female sex. She has experienced life, seen the high times and the low ones but is always bubbly and the life and soul of any party, whether she be dancing telling stories or just having a laugh. Cecelia loves children and surrounds herself with them and they in turn love her and are drawn to her. Some children had difficulty pronouncing her name, one calling her "Sheshe" instead of Cecelia. The name has stuck and now she is "Sheshe to everyone.
........so what better than to name our Lounge and Sleepwear after a women who is passionate and fun, who has class, style and grace, understated, yet with a twinkle in her eye and a little bit of naughtiness!
We hope you love our garments as much as we have loved making them for you,
With love and kisses
